Centenary Celebration
The Arno was official opened as a recreation ground on March 30th 1912, by His Worship the Mayor of Birkenhead.
But it had long been a favorite place of recreation for Oxton and its residents long before that.

2012 is, therefore a special year for The Friends, and at 10:15 on Friday the 30th of March 2012 The Mayor of Birkenhead will unveil a permanent memorial of its centenary in The Arno's Rose Garden

This will be in the form of a large sandstone block from The Old Arno Quarry, onto which will be affixed two plaques.
The original plaque, (which has been carefully restored) and a new plaque celebrating The Arno's first hundred years.
The stone has been partially buried in the top grass verge overlooking the entire Rose Garden.
Restoration or top border wall.
During the coming months the broken down wall of the top boarder is to be repaired.

The Sandstone corners will be rebuilt and repaired using old stone from around The Quarry.
The main span will be rebuilt using railway sleepers.
